As you may know, I’m running Unbound as our underlying resolving DNS server and that makes it my vested interest to contribute to that project. With the latest version, unbound 1.5.0 brings a ton of changes, including our own patch to “add msg, rrset, infra and key cache sizes to stats command”.
It adds cache size statistics which otherwise you would have to get by dumping the cache. That, however, blocks the resolving for the time it takes to produce the dump and would not acceptable to be run periodically on a large cache. This is where my patch steps in and provides the values free of charge :-)
I’m going to upgrade to 1.5.0 as soon as possible and use those additional statistics on the Performance page.
